Tesla (TSLA) took 18 years to attain a market capitalization of $1 trillion, but sages and prophets like Cathie Wood and Ron Baron were proven correct. TSLA shares jumped 12.7 percent on Monday after reports of a 100,000-unit buy order from troubled rental car firm Hertz, adding $80 billion to its market valuation and closing the day at $1,024.86 a share. It now has a market capitalization of $1.027 trillion.

Only six other firms — Amazon (AMZN), Alphabet (Google), Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT), SaudiAramco, and briefly PetroChina (PTR) — have ever accomplished this feat internationally, and Tesla is by far the only automotive company to do so. It is now worth more than four times as much as Toyota (TM), despite the fact that Toyota sells ten times as many automobiles as Tesla.
