According to SCMP, China’s leadership hailed last week’s discussions with the US in Switzerland as “productive.”

Yang Jiechi’s meetings with White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan in Switzerland finished without the hostile tone that marred their March meeting in Anchorage, Alaska, with Beijing this time claiming the conversation was “conducive to deepening mutual understanding.”

The importance of good gestures by Washington in mending the environment, as well as the two sides agreeing to a virtual summit between their presidents, was emphasized by China’s top diplomat. President Biden’s recent encouraging remarks on Sino-US ties were important to China, according to Jiechi.

The US wanted Chinese President Xi Jinping and his American counterpart, Joe Biden, to meet face to face. They did, however, complete a virtual conference before the end of the year. During six hours of negotiations in Zurich, both parties acknowledged disagreements on a number of subjects and promised to keep in touch.
